Experiencing the Woolsey fire first hand, I was compelled to learn more in the space of fire Preparedness and Prevention. I am a certified member of the Los Angeles fire department CERT team community emergency response team.
In our training we learned that homeowners are just not prepared in the event of a catastrophic event. It’s my mission to teach people how to use a fire hydrant and offer the proper tools at an affordable price to store in a metal container on your porch. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Remember in the event of a catastrophic event the task at hand is to fight the embers. Spraying water on your roof is useless, roofs don’t catch on fire. You are wasting water and water pressure. You must be defensive and fight the embers
Be prepared to evacuate. Your car should be backed in the driveway, if the fire gets in the house leave.
Be prepared. You have to assume the fire department is not coming. Since I put the ACE Fire Preparedness kit on my porch, I’m ready to jump into action to do my part before the fire department gets there. The fire department uses 5 inch hoses and the 5 inch FHC on the fire hydrant. You are not in the way with your 1 1/2 inch hose connected to the 2 1/2 inch outlet.
